When it comes to giving your English Bulldog a bath, there are really just few things to keep in mind. And despite popular belief, the grooming and bathing of Bulldogs is really not that much different than any other breed of dog.

The only real major difference with Bulldogs (obviously) is the issue of their wrinkles. But unless you have an English Bulldog that has wrinkles stacked from head to toe, this shouldn’t be a huge deal.

The concern with the wrinkles, especially around their face, is that they create folds where it’s possible for bacteria to grow. This is especially true if they are moist, so it’s important to make sure to get their faces good and dry after every bath.

You’ll want to begin drying at the face, with a clean dry towel. Take your time here to make sure to get each and every fold. After you dry their face, head and ears, you can then begin working down the rest of their body.

The frequency in which you bathe them would be another consideration. You don’t want to give your Bulldog a bath too frequently, as it can strip their skin and coat of the oils and protective layer needed for good health.

A recommended schedule for giving your English Bulldog a bath is once every few months. If you do it every two months or so, this should keep the natural odor to a minimum and still allow for a healthy coat.

As far as the type of shampoo goes, you’ll just want to use mild shampoo that is made (pH balanced) specifically for dogs. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on the shampoo either. You can find quality products for a couple of bucks at your local Wal-Mart that do a great job.

And although you will find a wide range of products being recommended online by other English Bulldog owners’, it’s NEVER a good idea to use any soaps designed for humans, dishes, laundry, etc. These can cause major problems by drying and/or irritating their skin.

Other than the few things above, which pretty much apply to most any dog, there’s really nothing special when it comes to giving your Bulldog a bath. No absolutes, must-do, do-not-forgets or strict schedules required.
